Agartala: Yesterday, Manipur emerged as the champions of Group-D in the National Santosh Trophy Football Tournament, defeating hosts Tripura 2-0 at the Umakanta Stadium today. The thrilling finale marked the culmination of a successful series of matches involving four teams—Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and Sikkim.
Following the match, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha felicitated the players and officials of all four participating teams. The Chief Minister presented mementos as tokens of appreciation for their participation and efforts in the tournament.
The felicitation event was attended by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Sports Department Director Satyabrata Nath, Tripura Football Association (TFA) President Pranab Sarkar, and Joint Secretary Tapan Saha, among other dignitaries.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister Dr. Saha expressed his delight at Tripura hosting the Santosh Trophy matches for the second time since 2018. He emphasized the importance of such events in encouraging local players and fostering a love for sports among the youth.
He also commended the Tripura Football Association for its efficient and successful organization of the tournament. Acknowledging their efforts, the Chief Minister extended his gratitude to all TFA members and thanked the players and officials of the participating teams for making the event memorable.
