Sonamura, November 5: “Football is the greatest of all games, unmatched in its global popularity,” said Tripura’s Chief Minister, Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, while addressing the audience as the chief guest at the final match of the late Ayet Ali Memorial Day-Night Football Tournament at Sonamura Sporting Ground.
This prestigious tournament, organized by the local Baghajatin Club, saw the presence of several dignitaries, including MLAs Kishore Barman, Tafazzal Hossain, Bindu Debnath, Sonamura Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Sarada Chakraborty, former Minister Billal Mia, former MLA Subal Bhowmik, Sepahijala District Magistrate Dr. Siddhartha Shiv Jaiswal, and District SP B.J. Reddy.
In his speech, the Chief Minister noted the significant turnout of spectators, highlighting the passion for football among the people. He stated, “The state government is implementing various projects to improve sports infrastructure and is taking new steps to nurture talented athletes. Our goal is to empower our athletes to excel at both the national and international levels.”
The Chief Minister further mentioned that synthetic turf has already been installed on seven fields across the state, with plans to add this advanced turf to more fields in the future. These initiatives, he said, would contribute to the growth of the state’s sports sector.
The late Ayet Ali Memorial Day-Night Football Tournament commenced on October 20, with LSA Kuwait Friends and Brothers-United competing in the final match.
