Agartala 11 June, 2024: In a significant move to enhance the state’s public distribution system (PDS), five new trucks were commissioned today by the Food, Public Procurement, and Consumer Affairs Minister, Sushant Chowdhury, at the central warehouse of the Food Department in Arundhatinagar. These vehicles, purchased at a cost of ₹1.86 crore from state government funds, will facilitate the distribution of essential commodities like rice, pulses, edible oil, and sugar to over 2,000 fair price shops across the state.
Minister Chowdhury emphasized that a robust PDS is crucial for strengthening both social and economic systems. He reiterated the government’s commitment to the development of all societal levels, highlighting plans to increase wages for workers in the food department’s stores. However, he underscored the importance of worker responsibility and efficiency in maintaining smooth operations.
The addition of these trucks brings the department’s total fleet to 22, significantly improving the logistics for transporting goods from procurement to distribution. This enhancement is expected to streamline the PDS, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of essentials to the state’s residents.
Ravel Hemendra Kumar, the special secretary of the department, noted that the new trucks will greatly enhance the convenience of transporting various goods within the system. The event was also attended by key officials, including Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited Chairman Jawahar Saha, Department Director Nirmal Adhikari, and Additional Director Animesh Debbarma.
Minister Chowdhury concluded by celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent election victory, attributing it to the government’s inclusive development agenda, encapsulated in the motto “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas.”
