Agartala, November 13: The Diwali festival and fair in Matabari are well-known as a cultural melting pot, bringing people of various communities together. Tomorrow, this festival will once again convey the message of harmony, with the active participation of One Tripura, a collaborative initiative for the betterment of the state, in the inauguration ceremony at the Tripureswari Temple, as stated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha during the opening ceremony at the Tripureswari Temple yesterday evening.
Yesterday, the Chief Minister participated in the Kalyan Aarti at the Kalyan Sagar and offered prayers for the well-being of the state at the Tripureswari Maa’s shrine. Subsequently, he illuminated the Mukta Mancha near the temple, marking the inauguration of the three-day Diwali festival and fair.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister stated that Diwali, the festival of lights, is observed annually to dispel negative forces and invoke positive energies through prayers. This festival has become a focal point, attracting pilgrims not only from neighboring Bangladesh but also from various parts of the country and abroad.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to the development of religious tourism, the Chief Minister mentioned the ongoing renovation of the Tripurasundari Temple, which is contributing to the growth of the pilgrimage site. The increasing number of pilgrims is also fostering the growth of various businesses, including shops, hotels, and small enterprises, which, in turn, is creating job opportunities in the region.
The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of Matabari’s Diwali festival and fair as a cultural convergence point, drawing tourists from both within the country and abroad. He expressed optimism that the event would continue to enhance the region’s visibility as a tourist destination. Acknowledging the historical significance of the festival, he mentioned that it remains a cherished tradition, attracting visitors as a cultural and communal gathering.
In his remarks, the honored guest, Finance Minister Pranjit Singh Roy, commented on the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revitalize religious sites across the country. He anticipated that the ongoing construction work in the Matabari courtyard as part of the development project would further enhance the beauty of the temple. With the growing number of pilgrims, the fair has been extended from 2 to 3 days this year.
He also emphasized that the Diwali festival and fair are not just gatherings for believers in the Sanatan Dharma but serve as a platform for people of every religion and community to come together in harmony.
