Agartala 24-03-23: The BJP-IPFT candidate, Biswabandhu Sen was elected as the speaker of Legislative Assembly on Friday. A total of 32 votes were given to him while Congress leader Gopal Roy got 14 votes in the election which was held on this day. It was the first day of the state Assembly session after the new government took oath earlier.
The Chief Minister Professor Dr Manik Saha congratulated Biswa Bandhu Sen on being elected as speaker of the Assembly and added that the glory of the house will reach new heights under his able leadership.
BJP had nominated Biswa Bandhu Sen’ s name for the post of speaker, while the Congress- CPM jointly fielded Gopal Roy as their candidate.
The BJP-IPFT alliance has 33 MLAs in the 60-member Tripura Assembly, while the opposition Congress and CPM have 14 MLAs while Tipra Motha has 13 MLAs.
