Agartala, October 7: The Tripura government has decided to distribute sugar, flour (maida) and semolina (suji) free of cost through ration shops to 9.92 lakh ration consumers across the state on the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja.
The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. Under the special festive allocation, each ration cardholder will receive 1 kg of sugar, 2 kg of flour and 500 grams of semolina free of cost. Distribution is expected to begin in mid-October, between Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja.




Briefing the media at the Secretariat on Thursday on the key decisions of the Cabinet meeting, Food and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the special allocation was aimed at supporting common people during the festive season.
According to the minister, the government will distribute a total of 243 metric tonnes of semolina, 1,984 metric tonnes of flour and 992 metric tonnes of sugar under the programme. The estimated expenditure will be between Rs 9.35 crore and Rs 9.85 crore.
1,061 Teachers to Be Recruited
The Cabinet has also decided to recruit 1,061 teachers to strengthen the state’s education system and create employment opportunities for young people.
Of the total, 700 Graduate Teachers will be recruited under the Secondary Education Department for Classes 9 and 10. The Elementary Education Department will recruit another 361 teachers, comprising 75 Graduate Teachers and 286 Undergraduate Teachers.
213 Posts to Be Filled in Agartala Municipal Corporation
To strengthen urban civic services, the Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 213 personnel in various categories under the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
The posts include technical, administrative and service-related positions. The recruitment is expected to strengthen the corporation’s workforce and improve the delivery and efficiency of civic services.
Tripura Staff Selection Commission to Be Set Up
The Cabinet has also decided to establish a Tripura Staff Selection Commission to streamline recruitment across various state government departments.
The proposed commission will conduct recruitment examinations and selection processes for Group-B, Group-C and Group-D posts, with the objective of making government recruitment faster, more transparent and better organised.
Welfare Measures Also Approved
The Cabinet has increased the sitting allowance for the chairman and members of the Welfare Sub-Committee under the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department from Rs 100 to Rs 200 per meeting.
For students residing in residential boarding houses under minority welfare programmes, the daily boarding house stipend has been increased from Rs 65 to Rs 100.
The Cabinet has also approved the filling of eight vacant Lower Division Clerk posts under the Science, Technology and Environment Department.
The decisions, covering festive support, education, employment, urban services and welfare measures, are expected to provide direct benefits to a large section of people across Tripura.
