Agartala, October 4: A tree plantation and cleanliness drive was organised in Ward No. 31 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation on Sunday as part of the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan being observed to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
The programme, aimed at promoting environmental conservation and civic responsibility, began at the ward office premises with the planting of saplings under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative.
Participants stressed the importance of increasing green cover and protecting the environment, saying such efforts would contribute towards creating healthier and cleaner surroundings for future generations.
The plantation drive was followed by a cleanliness campaign at the nearby Kali Temple compound. Volunteers, local residents and party workers participated in the drive and cleaned the temple premises.
Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee also joined the cleanliness campaign and wielded a broom along with workers and residents.
Speaking at the programme, Bhattacharjee emphasised the need to create greater public awareness about sanitation, cleanliness and environmental protection.
“I extend heartfelt appreciation to all organisers and workers for their tireless efforts in keeping our surroundings clean. This campaign reflects our responsibility towards society and our commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment,” he said.
Ward 31 Corporator Anjana Das, Banamalipur Mandal president Arindam Choudhury and several BJP leaders and workers were also present at the programme.
The organisers said the initiative was intended to encourage greater public participation in maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment at the grassroots level.
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is being marked through a series of programmes, including tree plantation drives, health camps and social welfare initiatives.
The Ward 31 programme was part of the grassroots activities organised under the campaign, with participants focusing on environmental protection and community service.
Bhattacharjee and other participants called for sustained efforts to maintain cleanliness in public spaces and promote greenery in urban areas.
The organisers said community participation was essential for ensuring that cleanliness and environmental conservation remained a continuous effort rather than being limited to campaign activities.
The drive concluded with an appeal to residents to contribute towards keeping their surroundings clean and planting more trees.
The programme also highlighted the role of citizens in promoting responsible civic practices and supporting efforts to create cleaner and greener urban spaces in Agartala.
