Agartala, October 2: Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Thursday paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary and called upon people to incorporate the ideals of truth, non-violence and peace into their everyday lives.
Nallu first visited Murti Prangan at the Circuit House, where he offered floral tributes at Gandhi’s statue in the presence of ministers, senior officials and other dignitaries.
The programme included musical performances dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, creating a solemn atmosphere as participants remembered his contribution to India’s freedom movement and his philosophy of non-violence.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, the Governor said Gandhi’s teachings remained relevant in contemporary society and stressed the need for citizens to uphold his principles through their actions.
He particularly highlighted the values of non-violence, peace and transparency and urged people to play constructive roles in society while contributing to the country’s development.
“Gandhiji’s ideals are timeless. Each of us must embrace them in our daily lives to build a stronger, more harmonious nation,” Nallu said.
Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma also attended the programme and paid tribute to Gandhi.
She said the values of truth, non-violence, peace and selfless service associated with Gandhi’s teachings should continue to guide future generations.
“May the timeless ideals of truth, non-violence, peace, and selfless service preached by Mahatma Gandhi Ji continue to inspire generations and guide us towards a more just, harmonious, and prosperous society,” Chakma said.
West Tripura District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar, senior government officials, community leaders and other dignitaries were among those present at the event.
The Governor later proceeded to Gandhighat, where additional programmes were organised to mark Gandhi Jayanti.
The events featured discussions and cultural activities focusing on Gandhi’s life, his contribution to the freedom struggle and his vision of social harmony.
Speakers and participants highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence and responsible participation in society while recalling Gandhi’s efforts to promote unity and non-violence.
Gandhi Jayanti is observed annually on October 2 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the prominent leaders of India’s freedom movement.
The occasion is marked across the country through prayer meetings, commemorative programmes, cultural events and activities promoting cleanliness and social harmony.
In Agartala, the day’s programmes concluded with tributes to Gandhi and calls to preserve the values associated with his life and philosophy.
The observance brought together government representatives, public figures and members of the community to remember Gandhi and reflect on the continued relevance of his teachings.
