Tripura, September 15, 2026: Police have arrested Dhanya Mohan Jamatia, who was allegedly involved in a brutal sharp-weapon attack on a 45-year-old widowed woman in a remote village under Jampuijala block of Tripura.
The incident took place on the night of July 27, when the accused allegedly entered the home of ID Sori Molsom, wife of the late Tilak Debbarma, at Bijoy Nandi Molsom Para in Ujan Pathalia Ghat ADC Village. According to local residents, the woman was repeatedly attacked with a sharp dao, leaving her critically injured.
Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the house and rescued her. She was initially taken to Bishramganj Hospital and later referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala as her condition deteriorated.
Following the attack, police launched a search for the accused. After 47 days, Dhanya Mohan Jamatia was reportedly apprehended late Monday night from a dense forest area near Bagan Bari Tui Rupa, under Killa Police Station. He was subsequently brought to Bishramganj Police Station.
Bishramganj Police Station OC Ajit Debbarma said the accused will be produced before the Bishalgarh Court today. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and further investigation is underway.
