Agartala, 14 Sep 2026: Tripura-based researcher and Assistant Professor Supratim Malla has been selected for the prestigious AIASA National Award 2026 – Dr. M. S. Swaminathan Award for Outstanding Master Research 2024 for his significant contribution to aquatic health research.
Malla is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Techno India University, Agartala, and is an alumnus of the College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Lembucherra). He pursued his doctoral research in the Department of Aquatic Health and Environment at the College of Fisheries and was also associated with the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (NSPAAD-II), funded by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India.
The national award recognises his Master’s research titled “Evaluation of Selected Locally Available Plant Extracts against Aphanomyces invadans Infection in Labeo rohita Fingerlings.” The study was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Himadri Saha, Assistant Professor, Department of Aquatic Health and Environment, College of Fisheries, CAU (Imphal), Lembucherra.
Malla’s research examined the potential of locally available plant extracts against Aphanomyces invadans, an important pathogen associated with Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome (EUS) in freshwater fish. The research focuses on sustainable and locally accessible approaches to aquatic animal health management.
The work has also produced notable academic and intellectual-property outcomes, including a research article in a high-impact international journal with an Impact Factor of 5.2, one patent and one registered copyright.
The award will be conferred on September 21, 2026, at the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC), New Delhi, during the inaugural session of the 5th International Conference on Organic and Natural Rice Production Systems (ORP-5). Malla is scheduled to receive the award from a Union Minister of the Government of India.
The recognition marks a significant achievement for Malla and brings national attention to the research work carried out at the College of Fisheries, CAU (Imphal), Lembucherra, as well as to Techno India University, Agartala, where he currently serves as a faculty member.
