Tripura, 30 August 2026: Two people, including a husband and wife, were seriously injured after being attacked by a bear at Panjiram Mog Para under Birendranagar ADC Village in the Jolaibari Assembly constituency on Sunday morning.
According to local sources, Ongshabai Mog and his wife Ongshanu Mog had gone to a nearby rubber plantation at around 7:00 AM to clear vegetation. While they were working, a bear suddenly emerged and attacked them.
The bear reportedly attacked the husband first, biting him on his hands and face, including the cheek. He also reportedly sustained fractures at two places on his arm. His wife was also injured in the attack.
A relative said the attack happened suddenly, leaving the couple frightened and unable to defend themselves. The husband was carrying a dao at the time but could not use it effectively as the bear attacked unexpectedly.
Following the incident, local residents rescued the injured couple and took them to Shantir Bazar District Hospital for treatment. Both are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The incident has raised fresh concerns among residents living near rubber plantations and forested areas over the presence of wild animals.
