Agartala, 26 August 2026: Dr. Sarbani Debbarma, wife of GBP Hospital Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami, is undergoing treatment at GB Hospital after allegedly sustaining serious injuries during a domestic altercation.
According to Dr. Debbarma’s account, her husband returned home around midnight after attending a dinner or social event, following which an argument broke out over his late arrival. She alleged that when she went to fetch the key after being asked to unlock the door, her husband became furious and began vandalising household property, including doors and windows.
Dr. Debbarma further alleged that her husband, who she claimed was intoxicated, threw heavy bricks from the lower floor while she was near the doorway upstairs. One of the bricks allegedly struck her directly in the left eye, causing severe injury.
Speaking about the incident, Dr. Debbarma alleged that she had endured domestic abuse for nearly 28–29 years. She said she had refrained from seeking divorce earlier in the hope that the situation would improve as their children grew older.
She also alleged that her husband frequently prioritised medical parties, CME programmes and social engagements over family responsibilities.
Asked about legal action, Dr. Debbarma said she intends to pursue legal remedies once her health stabilises, citing the safety and future of herself and her two children.
She also rejected claims that her husband sustained injuries during the incident, saying that she was on the upper floor while the alleged assault occurred from below.
Dr. Debbarma further alleged that her husband behaved differently in public and at home, describing him as outwardly helpful and professional but aggressive within the family.
She expressed regret that she had kept the alleged abuse hidden for decades and said the incident had finally compelled her to speak out.
Dr. Sarbani Debbarma is currently receiving treatment at GB Hospital. Further legal developments are awaited.
