Agartala, 26 August 2026: Kalyan Samiti emerged victorious in the Niljyoti Rakhal Memorial Knockout Football Tournament, organised by the Tripura Football Association, defeating Egiye Chalo Sangha 5–4 in a penalty shootout at Umakanta Stadium – Yesterday.
The final witnessed a closely contested battle, with neither side able to secure an outright victory in regulation time. The match was eventually decided by a tense penalty shootout, where Kalyan Samiti held their nerve to seal a 5–4 win.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Tripura Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Tripura Football Association President Pranab Sarkar, the association’s secretary and other officials.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Tinku Roy said the final brought back memories of Agartala’s traditional passion and love for football, with a large crowd turning up at the stadium.
Roy said the state government has been organising several football tournaments across Tripura with the aim of bringing talented players back to the field and providing them with opportunities to showcase their abilities.
He expressed hope that Umakanta Stadium would continue to host major football tournaments and attract large crowds in the days ahead.
The minister also announced that a statue of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand will be unveiled at the Badharghat Sports Complex on August 29, National Sports Day. According to Roy, Dhyan Chand’s son will attend the ceremony and personally unveil the statue.
Roy extended an invitation to the people of Tripura to attend the National Sports Day programme.
