Torrential rainfall over the past two days has inundated large parts of West Tripura district and adjoining areas, leaving several families displaced and vast stretches of agricultural land submerged. With floodwaters continuing to rise in low-lying areas, Member of Parliament and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has urged the administration to intensify rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.
In a message shared on social media on Sunday, Deb said he had spoken with officials to ensure that rescue operations and relief distribution were carried out promptly in the affected areas. He stressed the need for immediate administrative assistance to residents facing hardship due to the worsening flood situation.
Heavy rain has left several villages waterlogged, with homes, roads, marketplaces and farmland affected by rising waters. Families in vulnerable locations have been forced to move their belongings to safer areas, while many residents have taken shelter in temporary relief camps. Normal life has been disrupted, with concerns growing that further rainfall could aggravate the situation.
Deb appealed to residents to remain alert and maintain regular communication with local authorities. He advised people to avoid entering flood-prone or otherwise dangerous areas unless absolutely necessary and to follow safety instructions issued by the administration.
District authorities have said rescue teams are actively working in affected locations, monitoring water levels and assisting families in shifting to safer places. Boats have reportedly been deployed to reach areas cut off by floodwaters, while temporary shelters are being prepared for vulnerable households.
Relief arrangements are also being strengthened, with essential supplies such as food, drinking water and medicines being readied for distribution among affected residents. Officials are continuing to assess the situation and identify areas requiring urgent assistance.
For communities across West Tripura and neighbouring flood-hit regions, the floods have brought widespread disruption and uncertainty. With rainfall continuing in several areas, the next few hours are expected to remain critical as authorities monitor the movement of floodwaters and step up efforts to protect residents and provide timely relief.
