Tripura, 31 July 2026: Baikhora Police have seized 17 cattle allegedly being transported for smuggling into Bangladesh during a late-night operation conducted on Thursday.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by Baikhora Police Station’s Second Officer, Birajit Das, intercepted two Bolero vehicles (registration numbers TR 03 E 1600 and TR 08 A 1612) and recovered 17 cattle. A case has been registered, and police have launched an investigation to identify the owner of the seized cattle and determine those involved in the alleged smuggling network.
According to local sources, the cattle were allegedly being transported by a person identified as Sapan Dutta from the Laulang area for illegal smuggling into Bangladesh. The sources further claimed that routes through the Baikhora and Poangbari areas were frequently used for such activities and alleged the involvement of two other individuals, identified as Tapan Tripura and Tapu, in facilitating the transportation.
The report also contains allegations that the cattle were intended to be handed over to individuals identified as Minar Mia and Biltu Mia in Bangladesh. These allegations have not been independently verified, and no official confirmation has been issued by the police regarding their involvement.
Local residents have expressed hope that the investigation will uncover the full extent of the alleged cattle smuggling network and bring those responsible to justice.
Speaking to the media, Second Officer Birajit Das confirmed that police have registered a case and are working to identify the owner of the cattle and investigate all aspects of the incident.
Authorities have not officially confirmed the identities or roles of any suspects beyond the ongoing investigation, and further action will depend on the findings of the probe.
