Glasgow, Scotland, 28 July 2026: India’s para shot putter Sharmila Dhankhar clinched the gold medal in the Women’s Shot Put F57 event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, delivering a memorable performance and adding another gold to India’s medal tally.
Speaking after her victory, an emotional Dhankhar said she was proud to win a medal for the country and dedicate the achievement to her mother.
“I am extremely happy winning a medal for my country. I feel really proud, and I will continue bringing glory to the nation. This was my dream, and my mother’s dream too. I won this gold through hard work. My mother will be overjoyed. I got this medal for her,” she said.
Looking ahead, the newly crowned Commonwealth champion said her focus is now on the Asian Games and the Olympics.
“This is my first medal, and I will keep winning many more in the future,” Dhankhar added, expressing confidence in achieving greater success on the international stage.
Her gold-medal performance marks a significant milestone in her career and serves as an inspiration for aspiring para athletes across the country.
