In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare services in Tripura, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the supply and operationalisation of advanced medical equipment under a centrally supported initiative. The move is expected to enhance diagnostic capabilities and improve access to quality healthcare, particularly in district hospitals.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced the development on Monday through a social media post, describing it as a major milestone in the state’s efforts to modernise its healthcare infrastructure. He said the equipment would be provided through the Prime Minister’s Fund and would play a crucial role in expanding advanced diagnostic facilities in Tripura.
Under the agreement, the state will receive 48 Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled portable handheld X-ray machines, three 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines and three Digital Mammography Tomosynthesis (DBT) units. These modern diagnostic systems are expected to improve the early detection and treatment of various diseases while reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for specialised investigations.
According to the Chief Minister, the MRI machines, mammography units and AI-enabled X-ray machines will be installed at district hospitals in Dhalai, North Tripura and Gomati. The deployment of these advanced facilities is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare delivery in these districts by enabling faster diagnosis, improving patient care and supporting medical professionals with advanced technology.
The AI-enabled handheld X-ray machines are particularly expected to benefit healthcare workers by providing quick and accurate imaging in emergency situations, remote areas and bedside patient care. Similarly, the Digital Mammography Tomosynthesis units will enhance breast cancer screening services, while the MRI machines will improve the diagnosis of neurological, musculoskeletal and other complex medical conditions.
Expressing gratitude, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda for extending continued support to Tripura’s healthcare sector. He said the Centre’s assistance would help the state strengthen its medical infrastructure and ensure better healthcare services for people across all regions.
The initiative reflects the government’s continued focus on improving public health infrastructure through the adoption of modern medical technology, making advanced diagnostic services more accessible and affordable for the people of Tripura.
