Tripura, June 27: A heartbreaking account has emerged from the wife of Subhrajit Choudhury, who succumbed to severe burn injuries following a gas explosion at an office operating from an apartment in Agartala’s Ramnagar area.
Speaking to the media, she said the tragedy began with a phone call informing her that her husband had met with a minor motorcycle accident and was being taken to GB Hospital. Believing it was a road accident, she immediately rushed to the hospital with her brother-in-law.
However, after reaching the hospital, Subhrajit revealed what had actually happened. According to his wife, there had been a gas leak inside the office. He had gone to offer prayers at the office, and the moment he lit a matchstick, a powerful explosion occurred, leaving him with critical burn injuries.
She clarified that the incident did not occur at their residence. The explosion took place at the office of Abacus Result, which was operating from the owners’ own flat and not from a rented premises.
Despite intensive medical treatment, Subhrajit Choudhury died of his burn injuries on Friday (June 26, 2026), at 8:05 a.m., after battling for his life. His death has left his wife, parents, elder brother and other family members devastated.

Meanwhile, acting on the directions of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the Tripura Government has constituted a five-member high-level inquiry committee to investigate the explosion at the apartment located at Shankar Chowmuhani, Ramnagar Road No. 4, Agartala. The committee, headed by the Secretary of the Urban Development Department, has been tasked with determining the cause of the explosion and examining whether any negligence or safety lapses contributed to the tragedy. The committee has been directed to submit its investigation report within seven days.
The incident has raised serious concerns over gas safety and workplace security, with authorities expected to take further action based on the findings of the inquiry committee.
