Agartala, June 21: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday called upon people to embrace yoga as an essential part of their daily lives, saying its role in ensuring a healthy, disease-free and balanced lifestyle is invaluable. He stressed that yoga has emerged as a powerful tool for promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and emotional stability in today’s fast-paced world.
The Chief Minister was addressing the state-level celebration of the 12th International Yoga Day at the Hapania International Exhibition Hall on the outskirts of Agartala. Joining hundreds of participants in a mass yoga session, Saha highlighted the growing global acceptance of yoga and its relevance in fostering harmony and holistic wellness.
Speaking on the occasion, Saha said the ancient Indian practice of yoga and pranayama is today carrying a unique message of human welfare and well-being across the globe. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the initiative to introduce International Yoga Day at the global level. “The proposal placed before the international community in 2014 received overwhelming support from countries across the world, leading to the annual observance of International Yoga Day on June 21 since 2015,” he said.
Referring to this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the Chief Minister said yoga offers benefits to people of all age groups and contributes significantly to leading a disciplined and conscious life. “Regular yoga practice strengthens the body, improves mental peace and develops self-discipline. It helps create inner harmony and encourages a healthier way of living,” he said while urging citizens to make yoga a daily habit.
The programme was attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, legislators, senior government officials and people from different walks of life.
Meanwhile, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu participated in the Sepahijala district-level International Yoga Day celebration at Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Higher Secondary School in Charilam. Similar programmes were organised across districts, subdivisions and localities throughout Tripura.
Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who attended a Yoga Day event in Mohanpur, described yoga as a holistic discipline that nurtures a healthy body, calm mind and balanced lifestyle. The widespread participation across the state reflected yoga’s growing popularity and its significance in promoting overall wellness and healthy living.
