Agartala, June 11, 2026: The Tripura Government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of Manisha Das, a 24-year-old woman from Kathaltali, Madhuban, who was found dead at Shantiniketan Medical College, Agartala, on June 10.
According to an official order issued by the Home Department, Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura District, has been appointed to conduct the inquiry and submit a detailed report to the Home Department within 15 days.
The death has triggered widespread controversy, with the victim’s family strongly rejecting the police’s preliminary assessment that it may be a case of suicide.

Family Alleges Planned Murder
Manisha Das’s family has alleged that she was murdered and later hanged to make the incident appear as a suicide.
Speaking to reporters outside the medical college, Manisha’s mother questioned how her daughter, who reportedly weighed around 60 kilograms, could have hanged herself without the support of a chair or stool.

Just hours before her death, Manisha Das reportedly shared a cryptic message on social media that read:
“Aakhir aap khud ko sambhalna sikh hi gaye…”
(“Finally, you have learned to take care of yourself.”)
According to family members, no chair was found beneath her body when she was recovered. They also claimed that her feet were touching the bed, raising doubts about the suicide theory.
“Can a person die like this? They killed my daughter and then hanged her,” Manisha’s mother said while breaking down in tears.
The family has accused authorities of attempting to conceal the truth and demanded a thorough and impartial investigation.
Police Say Suicide Angle Being Examined
Amtali SDPO Parmita Pandey said police received information about the incident around 1 a.m. on Wednesday night. A police team, along with forensic experts, a dog squad, and a magistrate, rushed to the scene.
According to the SDPO, the room was locked from inside, and after the door was broken open, Manisha was found hanging. Based on the initial findings, police suspect it may be a suicide case, although the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.
The SDPO also revealed that investigators are examining reports of a heated argument between Manisha and her boyfriend shortly before the incident. The boyfriend has been detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Questions Remain
The case has raised several unanswered questions, including the circumstances under which the room was opened and the sequence of events leading to the discovery of the body.
While police are pursuing multiple angles, the victim’s family continues to insist that Manisha was the victim of a planned murder.
The findings of the post-mortem examination and the magisterial inquiry are expected to play a crucial role in determining the actual circumstances surrounding her death.
The investigation is ongoing.
