Tripura, 24 April: A case alleging submission of a false election affidavit against Tripura minister Tinku Roy came up for hearing at the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Kailashahar on Thursday.
Addressing the media on Friday, Congress Legislative Party leader and MLA Birajit Sinha alleged that Roy, who had contested the previous Assembly elections from Chandipur as a BJP candidate, furnished incorrect information regarding his educational qualifications in the nomination affidavit.
Sinha claimed that an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) found that the educational board cited in the affidavit does not exist in India. He also alleged that a pending criminal case related to an attack on a media office in Agartala was not disclosed in the affidavit, calling it a serious violation of legal provisions governing elections.
According to Sinha, a criminal case has been filed in connection with these allegations. During Thursday’s proceedings, the CJM was not present, and the in-charge judge reportedly directed that all records be properly documented.
The matter remains under judicial consideration, and further proceedings are awaited.
