Tripura, 20 April 2026: In a politically telling move ahead of shifting equations in Tripura’s Indigenous politics, former Executive Member Ananta Debbarma has returned to Tipra Motha, signalling a recalibration of loyalties after his unsuccessful stint with the BJP.
Debbarma reached Agartala’s Rajbari and met Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, where he reportedly sought forgiveness before formally rejoining the party. The development comes months after he had switched sides to the BJP ahead of the TTAADC elections, joining in the presence of Chief Minister Manik Saha and state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee.
However, his inability to secure a win on a BJP ticket appears to have triggered a return to his former political base. Observers see this as more than an individual comeback it reflects the continuing contest between regional Indigenous assertion led by Tipra Motha and the BJP’s expansion strategy in TTAADC areas.
