Agartala: Dec 29. North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai has issued show-cause notices to three police personnel and ordered an official inquiry following a technical failure during the ceremonial gun salute at Dharmanagar crematorium on Sunday.
The incident occurred during the state funeral of the late Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and Dharmanagar MLA Bishwa Bandhu Sen, when a mechanical malfunction disrupted the gun salute, an important part of the state honour.
SP Avinash Rai, who resumed duty on Monday after being on leave, took immediate action upon joining the office, directing the concerned personnel to explain why proper preparation was not made despite prior knowledge of the gun salute ceremony.
According to sources, while the first round of firing was executed correctly, the second round was completed with difficulty, and the third round failed completely due to a misfire.
The SP has ordered a detailed investigation to determine responsibility and to prevent such lapses in future ceremonial duties.
Senior officials present at the ceremony included Unakoti district SP Sudhambika R, and North Tripura Additional SP Kamal Debbarma.
