Tripura, 28 Dec 2025: The investigation into the death of delivery boy Prasenjit Sarkar has witnessed significant progress, with police arresting two more accused in connection with the case that has sparked widespread public outrage in Dharmanagar, North Tripura.
According to police records, the arrests were made in connection with Case No. 2025DMN122, registered on December 14, 2025, at Dharmanagar Police Station.
Two Accused Arrested
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Meghadeep Bhattacharjee (24), resident of Madhya Nayapara under Dharmanagar police station area Piyu Dhar (22), resident of Dakshin Harua under Dharmanagar police station area
Police sources confirmed that both accused were arrested from areas under the jurisdiction of the CRB Police Station.
The accused have been booked under Sections 329(4), 115(2), 103(1), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Court Production
According to police officials, the two accused are scheduled to be produced before the court at around 10:30 am yesterday. However, following their arrest, discussions and speculation have emerged in various quarters regarding the timing and manner of their court production.
Background of the Case
Earlier, Prasenjit Sarkar, a delivery worker, allegedly died by suicide after being assaulted and humiliated during a delivery-related dispute. The incident reportedly left the young worker mentally distressed, leading to his tragic death.
Following the incident, strong protests erupted in Dharmanagar, with residents, youth groups, and civil society organisations demanding swift arrests and strict punishment for those responsible. The case also brought renewed focus on the safety and dignity of delivery workers.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing and assured that no individual involved in the incident will be spared. Further legal proceedings are awaited as the case moves forward.
