Agartala: Dec 26. A 57-year-old newspaper hawker lost his life in a tragic road accident at Kalyanpur on Thursday morning while returning home after collecting ration rice. The deceased has been identified as Ajay Acharjee, a well-known newspaper vendor in the area.
According to sources, the incident occurred near Ananda Marg School on the Teliamura road when Ajay Acharjee was hit and run over by a 12-wheeler truck. He was returning from the ration shop located at the Kalyanpur Block auditorium at the time of the mishap.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and immediately shifted him to Kalyanpur Community Health Centre. However, the attending doctors declared him brought dead.
Ajay Acharjee had been working as a newspaper hawker for nearly two decades in Kalyanpur market and nearby areas. Earlier in his life, he was also associated with private tutoring and ran a small bookshop. Despite these roles, he continued working as a newspaper vendor till his last day.
He is survived by his wife, one son, and several relatives. Following the incident, a pall of gloom descended over the entire area. Kalyanpur Press Club expressed deep sorrow over his untimely demise and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
