Agartala: Dec 23. The 2nd District-Level Fish Festival 2025-26 was organised today at the ISBT Ground, Kanchanpur, under the initiative of the Tripura Government’s Fisheries Department, aiming to promote fish farming and encourage fishermen across North Tripura district.
The colourful inaugural programme began around 1 pm, with Fisheries, ARD and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das inaugurating the festival as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, the minister highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening the fisheries sector and improving the livelihoods of fish farmers through awareness and modern practices.
North Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Nath attended the event as a special guest.
The programme also saw the presence of TTAADC MDCs Shailendra Nath and Swapna Rani Das, Chairperson of Agriculture Standing Committee, North Tripura Zilla Parishad Mamoni Roy, Fisheries Secretary Deepa D. Nair, Fisheries Director Santosh Das, Additional District Magistrate & Collector Lalringhneta Darlong, and Kanchanpur SDM Ashis Biswas.
Several social workers, including Kajal Das and Birendra Kar, along with officials and local representatives, were also present. The programme was presided over by Ajanta Kumar Chowdhury, BAC Chairman of Laljuri RD Block.
The primary objective of the district-level Fish Festival is to boost fisheries development, spread awareness about scientific fish cultivation, and motivate fish farmers to adopt improved techniques. A significant turnout of people from various sections of society was witnessed at the event, reflecting growing interest in the fisheries sector.
