Tripura, 20 Dec 2025: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday said that police stations are the primary and most crucial pillars of the law-and-order system, as they serve as the first point of contact for common citizens seeking justice. He stressed that public safety and people’s trust in the law begin at the police station level, making effective and people-friendly policing essential.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing a press conference after chairing a high-level meeting on law and order at the Agartala Press Club. The meeting focused on the overall law-and-order situation in the state, crime control, public security, and administrative coordination.

Senior officials, including the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, senior officers from various departments, DIGs, SPs of different districts, and Officers-in-Charge of police stations, were present at the meeting.
Addressing the media, Dr. Saha said there was a time when police officers were unable to work independently due to political interference, which often deprived ordinary people of justice. He noted that after the formation of the present government, the situation has changed, and the police have been given full freedom to work independently and professionally to uphold the rule of law.
Emphasising discipline and responsibility, the Chief Minister said the police uniform represents honour and accountability. Maintaining its dignity is the duty of every police personnel, and officers must remain alert and sincere while discharging their responsibilities. He also said that the daily performance of police station OCs is being closely monitored and evaluated.
Dr. Saha added that several measures have been taken to ensure efficient policing and proper delivery of law-and-order services to the public. Regular review meetings are being conducted to strengthen the policing system. Issues such as monitoring at the police station level, timely filing of charge sheets, coordination between police and prosecution, internal challenges within the force, conditions of police stations, and maintaining the physical fitness of personnel were discussed in detail.
Referring to border security, the Chief Minister said strict instructions have been issued to strengthen security along the India–Bangladesh border in Tripura. He warned that no attempt to disturb peace and law and order would be tolerated, and strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved in such activities.
He further stated that public awareness programmes are being intensified to educate citizens on law-and-order issues. According to the Chief Minister, the overall law-and-order situation in Tripura has improved significantly, with a decline in crime rates, and the state is currently maintaining a peaceful environment.
