Tripura, 20 Dec 2025: The Tripura government is strongly committed to building a drug-free society and is intensifying its efforts through coordinated administrative action and youth-focused programmes. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the district-level Nasha Mukt Tripura Awareness Workshop held at a Kala Kshetra auditorium in Kailashahar, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy said that involving young people in sports is one of the most effective ways to keep them away from substance abuse.
The Minister stated that the state government is working with determination towards the goal of a Drug-Free India and Drug-Free Tripura. To strengthen treatment and rehabilitation facilities for people affected by addiction, a plan has been taken to set up a 50-bed de-addiction centre and hospital in Kailashahar at an estimated cost of ₹20 crore. He added that similar de-addiction centres will be established in every district of the state.
He further informed that construction of a 100-bed de-addiction centre and hospital at Bishramganj is already underway, with an estimated cost of around ₹110 crore. Stressing that sports play a vital role in shaping discipline and positive values among youth, the Minister said the government is giving special importance to the development of sports infrastructure across the state.

So far, the present government has constructed 14 synthetic sports grounds and 20 natural grass grounds in different parts of Tripura. Indoor stadiums and other sports infrastructure are also being developed at various locations.
The government, he said, will continue to take up such initiatives and projects in the future to encourage youth participation in sports and to keep society free from drugs.
