Agartala: Dec 20. Tipra Motha senior leader and Ramchandraghat MLA Ranjit Debbarma on Saturday strongly objected to the alleged unequal distribution of electric autorickshaws under the Chief Minister’s Tribal Development Mission, warning of street protests and a National Highway blockade on December 27 if the issue is not resolved.
Citing a notification issued by the Tribal Welfare Department on December 6, Debbarma questioned the allocation pattern of electric autorickshaws across RD blocks, terming it discriminatory.
Under the scheme, the Tripura government has approved the distribution of 291 electric autorickshaws to unemployed Scheduled Tribe (ST) youths. Of these, Padmabil RD Block in the Ramchandraghat Assembly constituency was allotted only 13 vehicles, while Mungiakami RD Block under the Krishnapur Assembly constituency, represented by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, received 200 autos.
The MLA further pointed out that several other RD blocks, including Teliamura, Kalyanpur and Tulasikhar, were each allotted 26 electric autorickshaws, calling the disparity “hurtful and unjust.”
Debbarma said he has already raised the matter with the Director of Tribal Welfare and would take it up directly with Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha during his visit to Ramchandraghat on December 23.
Urging legislators across party lines to closely monitor the implementation of welfare schemes in their respective constituencies, Debbarma warned that the people of Ramchandraghat “will not remain silent” if fairness is denied.
