Agartala: Dec 19. Chandipur MLA and Minister Tinku Roy personally extended support to 27 tuberculosis (TB) patients in his constituency under the government’s NI-KSHAY Mitra program, aimed at building a TB-free India. Each patient received ₹3,000 in financial assistance along with nutritious fruits to aid recovery.
Minister Roy also announced a personal initiative to provide each patient with ₹500 per month for ongoing financial support, emphasizing the importance of humanitarian and nutritional assistance in TB recovery.
The event, held at Vivekananda Hall, Shrirampur, highlighted combining medical treatment with social and nutritional support, with volunteers, organizations, and individuals acting as “Mitra” for patients throughout their treatment.
State TB Officer Dr. Nupur Debbarma noted that India is on track to eliminate TB ahead of the 2030 global target, crediting government efforts. Minister Roy further highlighted malnutrition and substance abuse as key TB risk factors and announced home-based screening for the elderly under the local “Pratyasha” initiative.
Currently, Unakoti district has 223 TB patients, with 17 active Nikshay Mitras supporting 116 patients. The program underscores the government’s commitment to holistic TB care, combining treatment, nutrition, and community support.
