Agartala: Dec 19. A case of alleged indecent behaviour towards a minor schoolgirl has caused widespread concern in Purba Huruya village under Dharmanagar police station. Police have arrested one accused in connection with the incident, while a manhunt is underway for another suspect.
According to the complaint, the victim, a Class VI student, was returning home after finishing her school examination when the accused allegedly called her into a shop and attempted to behave indecently with her. The minor managed to escape from the spot and later informed her family about the incident.
Following the incident, the girl was admitted to Dharmanagar District Hospital after suffering physical and mental trauma. She is currently undergoing treatment.
After the family lodged a complaint, police from Dharmanagar police station and the Women Police Station jointly initiated an investigation. One of the accused, identified as Ranjit Pal Chowdhury (55) of Purba Huruya village, has been arrested. The second accused, Asit Dhar (26) of Uttar Huruya village, is absconding, and search operations are continuing.
Women Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shipra Das confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of law and assured that strict legal action would be taken against those involved.
Meanwhile, on evening, Dharmanagar MLA Jadab Lal Debnath, along with Kalachhara Block BDO Narayan Debnath, TRLM staff, and other block officials, visited the victim’s residence and later went to Dharmanagar District Hospital to inquire about the girl’s health condition. The delegation also met the Officers-in-Charge of Dharmanagar General Police Station and Women Police Station, urging a fair and impartial investigation and exemplary punishment for the accused.
The incident has sparked anger among local residents, who have demanded speedy justice and stringent punishment to prevent such incidents in the future.
