Tripura, 18 Dec 2025: Under the visionary leadership of Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, and with the active initiative of the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency (TSOFDA) led by its Mission Director Rajib Debbarma, a successful demonstration of organic potato cultivation using the Apical Root Cutting (ARC) method was conducted for the first time in the Lefunga Agricultural Sub-Division.
The programme was organized in collaboration with the International Potato Center (CIP), Lima, under the guidance of its Director General Dr. Simon Heck. The demonstration was carried out on 0.5 hectares of land belonging to progressive farmer Budha Debbarma, where the improved organic potato variety Kufri Uday was cultivated.
The event, held under the supervision of TSOFDA, was attended by BAC Chairman Ranabir Debbarma. Knowledge support was provided by the State Horticultural Research Station (SHRS), with Deputy Director of Horticulture (DDH) Dr. Rajib Ghosh elaborating on the technical advantages of the Apical Root Cutting method and its potential to significantly enhance productivity in organic potato farming.
Also present at the programme were the Superintendent of Agriculture of Lefunga Sub-Division, Ashim Debbarma, along with other officials from TSOFDA and the Agriculture Department. The officials stressed the importance of adopting modern, scientific, and innovative organic farming practices to increase production and improve farmers’ income.
It is hoped that this pioneering initiative will open new avenues for organic potato cultivation in the Lefunga region and contribute to the economic upliftment of the farming community.
