Agartala: Dec 18. Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma today rejected the BJP’s claim of winning all 28 seats in the upcoming TTAADC elections, asserting that such confidence is far removed from ground reality.
Addressing a mega gathering at Kowaifang in South Tripura district this afternoon, Debbarma said he does not believe the ruling party will achieve a clean sweep and accused its allies of attempting to secure public support through financial inducements.
Alleging that the politics of the Janajati Morcha revolves around monetary gains, Debbarma claimed that assurances were given to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to win the ADC polls by exploiting the BJP’s financial strength. He warned Tiprasa voters that accepting money or traditional gifts like risa in exchange for votes would amount to “selling their children’s future,” stating that such practices only weaken thansa (unity) within the community.
Emphasising unity, Debbarma said the Tiprasa community has suffered due to internal divisions but asserted that voters of Birchandranagar-Kalshi and Kowaifang would stand united this time. He urged supporters to respect and love one another, reminding them that outside Council’ they are identified as one– Tiprasa, Pahadi or Tribal.
Taking a swipe at alliance partner BJP, Debbarma praised IPFT General Secretary Swapan Debbarma, recalling that while the BJP targeted CPI-M in 2018 and later weakened IPFT by 2023, the post-2024 Tiprasa Accord alliance between Tipra Motha and IPFT has now made Tipra Motha the BJP’s primary political rival.
He expressed strong resentment over remarks branding Motha supporters as ‘goons,’ while the minister’s statement about ‘peeling’ Motha supporters like broiler chickens was treated as a gentle remark.
“When we speak about land rights and fundamental rights, they call us goons,” Debbarma said, adding that in 2025–26 the Tiprasa people would no longer remain silent.
Expressing confidence ahead of the elections, Debbarma declared that Tipra Motha would win the South Tripura district constituencies, stating, “I take full responsibility.” He also dismissed rumours of party leaders leaving, saying he has complete faith in his leadership team and has never acted against anyone.
Reiterating his stand on the Kokborok language, Debbarma criticised opposition to the Roman script, calling it hypocritical when ministers and MLAs send their own children to English-medium schools while Tiprasa students are compelled to study in Bengali. He also raised slogans in support of Kokborok and Kaubru languages.
Concluding his address, Debbarma asserted that Tipra Motha would return to power in the TTAADC and declared that Tripura would witness a Tiprasa Chief Minister in the 2028 Assembly elections.
The gathering was attended by TMP leadership including former TWD Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, MDC Debajit Tripura, former MLA and Spokesperson Rajeshwar Debbarma and retired IAS Officer C.K. Jamatia, TWF President Manihar Debbarma and other leaders.
