Tripura, December 16:On the occasion of the 54th Victory Day, a commemorative programme was organized at Netaji Subhas Park located within the Raj Bhavan premises. The event was attended by the Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, senior government officials, and officers from various departments.
The programme was held to pay tribute to the brave Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, contributing to India’s historic victory. Addressing the gathering, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu described the day as one of immense pride and historical importance. He said that December 16 is not merely a ceremonial day but a reminder of the Indian Armed Forces’ courage and the joint struggle of soldiers and civilians during the 1971 war. He also highlighted the significant role played by the people of Tripura, who stood shoulder to shoulder with Indian soldiers during the Liberation War.

The Governor emphasized that the Liberation War was a collective effort, where ordinary citizens of Tripura actively supported the Indian Army, a contribution that will remain permanently etched in history. He also underlined the dedication, discipline, and sense of duty of the Indian Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation, and praised the artists, soldiers, and participants who contributed to the programme.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, in his address, called Victory Day a golden chapter in India’s history. He said the day symbolizes courage, sacrifice, and patriotism, reminding citizens of the historic victory achieved in 1971 through the bravery of Indian soldiers and freedom fighters. The Chief Minister noted that Tripura’s soil bears a proud legacy of humanity and cooperation during the Liberation War, when countless refugees were sheltered and supported. He described the war memorial as a living tribute to the sacrifices of brave soldiers and said it serves as a source of inspiration for future generations.
The Chief Minister also paid deep respect to the soldiers who laid down their lives for the defence of the nation and the welfare of its people.
The programme began with a special documentary screening marking Victory Day and the role of the 73rd Mountain Brigade. Cultural performances, including dances presented by artists from the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Indian Army personnel, NCC cadets, and other artists, added colour to the event.
At the conclusion of the programme, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha distributed prizes to the winners of a painting competition organized in connection with the 54th Victory Day celebrations.
