Tripura, 16 Dec 2025: A young man identified as Toton Das, a resident of the Manumukh area in Belonia, lost his life under mysterious circumstances on Monday night, after being found lying in a pool of blood on a roadside near Manumukh School under Belonia Police Station.
According to reports, personnel of the Belonia Fire and Emergency Services rescued Toton Das from the spot and rushed him to Belonia Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him brought dead.
While the exact cause of the incident remains unclear, local residents suspect that a dumper vehicle hit Toton Das at high speed and fled the scene, resulting in his fatal injuries. Following the incident, police reached the spot and registered a case of accidental death, launching an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The news of Toton Das’s death plunged his family members and local residents into deep shock and grief.
Sources said that Toton Das had walked from his home to Manumukh Market, where he attended a discussion meeting of a local committee related to the Manumukh festival. After the meeting, he was returning home carrying his tiffin, when the tragic incident occurred. Shortly thereafter, news spread in the market area that a person was lying injured on the road. People rushed to the spot and found Toton Das lying bloodied on the roadside.
The Fire and Emergency Services were immediately informed, and upon arrival, the personnel shifted him to the hospital. Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether the incident was indeed a hit-and-run accident and to identify the vehicle involved.
