Agartala: Dec 13. After a prolonged wait, Khowai police have arrested Akash Biswas, the alleged mastermind of an illegal infiltration and human trafficking racket operating along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
According to police sources, Akash Biswas son of Haridhan Das (27) was apprehended on Friday based on specific intelligence inputs. He is believed to be the key operator facilitating the illegal movement of Bangladeshi nationals through the Paharmura border area under Khowai police station.
For the past several months, frequent movement of illegal Bangladeshi nationals through Paharmura had raised alarm. Multiple arrests by police and border security forces pointed to the existence of a well-organized broker network actively aiding cross-border infiltration. Media reports had earlier highlighted the issue, prompting intensified surveillance.
Police officials stated that Akash Biswas played a central role in coordinating crossings, which repeatedly resulted in illegal entrants being caught during transit. Acting on sustained monitoring and confidential information, Khowai police finally succeeded in trapping him.
However, authorities cautioned that the problem is far from over. Police acknowledged that several other broker networks remain active across different border areas of Khowai district. Local intellectuals have stressed the need for stronger involvement of intelligence agencies alongside routine policing.
Akash Biswas will be produced before the court with multiple charges invoked against him.
