Tripura, 12 Dec 2025: A major drug bust at the Upanagar Naka check post on Thursday evening created widespread sensation. Around 7 PM, police intercepted a Mahindra Bolero Camper goods vehicle (registration number MZ 01 AD 4923) travelling from Kanchanpur towards Agartala for routine checking.
During the search, police recovered 137 packets of heroin weighing 1 kg 644 grams and nearly 10,000 Yaba tablets. According to police estimates, the seized heroin and Yaba tablets have a market value of approximately ₹2.5 crore. The drugs were hidden inside a specially designed secret chamber within the vehicle.
Police sources said the operation was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs. The driver and two others travelling in the vehicle were arrested on the spot. Initial investigation suggests that the consignment was smuggled into Tripura from across the Mizoram border with the intention of further trafficking.
Terming it a major success, the local police administration said a case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and interrogation of the accused is underway. Police suspect the involvement of a large drug trafficking network, adding that further investigation may reveal more links and lead to additional arrests.
