Agartala, Dec 11: The CPIM has initiated legal proceedings against former Chief Minister and sitting Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb for what the party describes as an alleged baseless and defamatory remark made against it. The information was shared by CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Choudhury on Thursday.
According to Choudhury, Deb had recently alleged that CPIM leaders stole valuables from the Matabari donation box during the party’s tenure in Tripura and replaced them with duplicate items. He said the statement, made at a religious gathering in Gandhigram, was “completely fabricated” and aimed at tarnishing the party’s image.
Choudhury said the CPIM first sought proof or an apology through an official release, followed by a legal notice. However, Deb did not respond, prompting the party to proceed with a defamation case.
The CPIM leader added that such accusations not only mislead the public but also demoralise party supporters.
