Agartala: Dec 10. A Sessions Court has sentenced life imprisonment to Tapan Debbarma (24) for murdering Santosh Debbarma (36) in front of his wife at FulKumari (Kaluadepa). The verdict was delivered by Sessions Judge Rabi Dahiya on Tuesday, holding the accused guilty under Section 302 of the IPC.
The case dates back to 16 June 2023, when Santosh, returning home around 9:30 PM in his auto-rickshaw, got into an argument with Tapan after his vehicle allegedly hit the accused. The heated exchange escalated within minutes.
According to the prosecution, Tapan rushed back to his house, fetched a dao, returned to the spot and slit Santosh’s throat, killing him instantly while the victim’s wife, Sakuntala Debbarma, watched in shock.
Sakuntala lodged a complaint at R.K. Pur Police Station the next morning, following which police arrested Tapan and completed the investigation promptly. A charge-sheet was later filed.
The prosecution team was led by Special Public Prosecutor Saktipada Chakraborty, assisted by Investigating Officer S.I. Sahin Ahmed Barbhuiya.
