Tripura, 5 Dec 2025: Minister Animesh Debbarma stressed that no tribal community can survive merely through formal education; they must also nurture and protect their unique identity, culture, and heritage. He said collective and sustained efforts are needed to keep traditions alive and pass them on to future generations.
He was addressing a two-day cultural programme organised at Kanchanbari Panchayat under Ganganagar RD Block on the occasion of Bana Pana Utsav. The event was jointly organised by the Information & Cultural Affairs Department, Gomati District Administration, Amarpur Sub-Division Administration, and Kanchanbari community members. The festival began on 3 December.
Speaking at the event, Minister Debbarma said that even highly educated members of tribal society should not abandon their roots. Instead, they must carry forward their cultural identity with pride. He noted that nearly 20 tribal groups across the world vanish every year, and the government is taking steps to prevent such extinction.
He emphasised that if a community wants to preserve its existence, it must respect and nurture its own culture and heritage. The Minister urged the youth to stay connected to the cultural foundation of their community despite the growing influence of modern science and technology.
Addressing the gathering, TTAADC Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia said every tribal group must work collectively to safeguard their identity. He also highlighted the importance of cultural development and social harmony.
Local community representatives, including Kanchanbari Panchayat members, MLAs, and officials, were present at the programme.
