Tripura, Dec 4: In a swift and efficient operation, police of Birganj Police Station recovered nearly ₹7 lakh worth of gold ornaments within 24 hours of being stolen from the residence of Shyamjoy Jamatia, the current SDM of Karbok Sub-Division. The incident took place on Wednesday morning at Thalchhara village under Amarpur subdivision.
According to the complaint, the stolen ornaments belonged to the wife of SDM Shamjoy Jamatia. He informed police that the theft was allegedly committed by his own nephew. Acting immediately, Officer-in-Charge of Birganj Police Station Sukramani Debbarma and Amarpur SDPO Nirman Das began an investigation.
Police detained a youth named Prohor Jamatia, who confessed during interrogation that he had sold the stolen gold ornaments at Kaushik Jewellery in Amarpur market for ₹2.5 lakh.
Based on this confession, Birganj police conducted a late-night raid at the jewellery shop on Wednesday and successfully recovered all the stolen items. One person from the shop was also detained for further questioning, SDPO Nirman Das confirmed.
The recovery of the stolen ornaments within such a short period has created a stir across the subdivision, with locals praising the prompt and effective action of the Birganj police.
