Tripura, Dec 3: National Divyangjan Day and the Khelo Tripura Para Games were inaugurated today at Belonia Vivekananda Maidan by the President of the South Tripura Zilla Parishad, Deepak Dutta. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, he said the day is observed to honour the invaluable contributions of Divyang citizens, who remain an integral part of society. He stressed that it is everyone’s responsibility to support them and ensure greater inclusion.
The event was welcomed by District Social Welfare & Social Education Officer Prabir Debnath. Among those present were Belonia Municipal Council Chairman Nikhil Chandra Ghosh, District Magistrate Mohammad Sajjad P, SDO Jyotirmoy Das, and several prominent social workers including Dipayan Chowdhury.
During the programme, mobility aids and assistive equipment were distributed to 150 Divyang beneficiaries of the district. Health check-ups were also conducted, and medicines were provided as required. Additionally, 20 meritorious Divyang students who excelled in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations received financial assistance.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support and appealed for continued access to equipment such as crutches, wheelchairs, and hearing aids. The event was organised by the Department of Social Welfare & Social Education in collaboration with the District Youth Affairs & Sports Office.
