Assam, 18 Sep 2025: A case of alleged gang rape of a minor girl from the Tripura state has triggered major developments, leading to the arrest of five Manipuri students and their subsequent suspension from Assam down town University (AdtU).
The university issued an official notification (Memo No: AdtU/R/2025-26/95) on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, suspending the students from all academic and non-academic activities. The memo cited “complaints received of involvement of alleged unlawful activities” as the reason for the immediate action.
The case has drawn significant attention and concern from leadership in Tripura. Tripura Royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the influential Tripura royal scion and political leader, addressed the issue on social media.
“In a serious developing issue a girl from Tripura was allegedly raped in Guwahati,” he stated. “I have spoken to the victim and offered all help to her.”
Pradyot made a strong appeal for responsibility, urging the public and media to avoid speculation and sensationalism. “I appeal to everyone to not speculate and ensure that the identity of the girl is not revealed. I also appeal to certain section of the media to be responsible and not sensational in this matter and ensure that we don’t have a media trial,” he said, adding, “I will stand with the victim to ensure she gets justice.”

The university’s notification clarified that the suspension will remain in effect “until further order” and that formal disciplinary action will be initiated upon receipt of the official charge sheet from the police.

With a senior leader like Pradyot Manikya now involved, the case is under intense scrutiny as police investigations continue. Authorities have reiterated the call to allow the legal process to proceed without interference.
