Agartala, April 22, 2025: In a major breakthrough in combating human trafficking in Tripura, a joint team of Agartala GRP Police, BSF, and Ramnagar Outpost launched a pre-dawn operation today and arrested five individuals allegedly linked to two separate human trafficking cases.
The arrests were made from Lankamura, Sharmalunga, and Shanmura areas, based on specific intelligence inputs. According to police sources, the accused had been evading arrest for a considerable period. Acting on a tip-off, a special team was formed, and the crackdown was carried out with precision in the early hours.
The arrested individuals have been identified as: Suman Das alias Bikash (39), resident of Sanmura, near Loknath Ashram, under West Agartala Police Station. Rahul Das (27), resident of Sanmura, near Loknath Ashram, West Agartala. Biswajit Das (49), resident of Das Para, Sharmalunga, near Joyonto Club, West Agartala. Anibesh Sarkar (31), also from Das Para, Sharmalunga, near Joyonto Club, West Agartala. Jewel Sarkar (26), resident of Landless Colony, Lankamura, under West Agartala Police Station.
All five hail from West Tripura district and are suspected to be key operatives in an organized human trafficking network. Police officials informed that the suspects were brought to Agartala GRP Police Station where a special team has begun an intensive interrogation. Authorities believe more individuals connected to the racket may be apprehended in the coming days.
Later in the day, the arrested were produced before the Hon’ble Court, which granted a three-day police remand for further investigation.
The operation marks a significant stride in the ongoing crackdown against human trafficking in the state, signaling a stern message to those involved in such illegal activities.
