Road Blockade by Auto Drivers and Locals Demanding Road Repairs in Jampuijala Petrol Pump Area
Tripura, 01 April, 2025: Despite the central and state governments allocating crores of rupees for road repairs, poor-quality work by some contractors and engineers has left the public suffering. The deteriorating condition of roads has severely impacted daily life, leading to frequent protests across various parts of the state. A similar incident occurred on Monday afternoon when auto drivers and local residents blocked the road from Jampuijala to Gangrai Kami, demanding immediate repairs.
Due to the blockade, TTAADC EM Dolly Reang was also stuck in the traffic. Upon receiving the news, police officers and Jampuijala Sub-Division’s PWD Junior Engineer Binod Debbarma rushed to the scene. It was revealed that ₹1.49 crore had already been sanctioned for the road repairs, but the concerned department had not yet started the work despite the long delay.
Junior Engineer Binod Debbarma assured the protesters that the road would be repaired within a week. However, the auto drivers and locals demanded a written commitment, arguing that previous verbal assurances from PWD officials had not led to any actual work being done.
