Tripura, 13 April 2026: A woman was allegedly assaulted by a paramilitary jawan outside the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) office in Sabroom following the conclusion of vote casting for the TTAADC general elections. The incident has sparked tension in the area.
According to the victim, identified as Supriya Chowdhury (Tripura) from Kalachhara in Sabroom, she was kicked and beaten without provocation when she protested against the use of a polling vehicle to transport passengers.
She claimed that despite the presence of female personnel, male constables used force against her, raising serious concerns over protocol violations and conduct.
The woman stated that she was kicked from behind and struck with a baton by male personnel.
She questioned how such actions could be justified, especially when female constables were reportedly present at the scene.
The incident has triggered demands for the suspension of the involved TSR jawan, with voices of protest emerging from various quarters. Tipra Motha leaders and supporters have also condemned the alleged act, stating that such behavior is unacceptable and against constitutional values.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
