Agartala, April 13: The State Election Commissioner has ordered a re-poll at a polling station under the 17-Pekuarjala–Janmejoynagar (ST) constituency in the ongoing TTAADC general elections.
According to an official press release, the re-poll will be held at Polling Station No. 39 – Hirapur SB School, following serious allegations of irregularities during the voting process. The Commission took cognizance of the matter after reviewing credible video evidence and a detailed report submitted by the appointed observer.
Preliminary findings indicate that certain individuals attempted to tamper with the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), thereby compromising the integrity of the electoral process and obstructing the conduct of free and fair polling.
Taking the matter with utmost seriousness, the Commission has declared the earlier polling at the said booth null and void. Exercising its authority, it has directed that fresh polling be conducted on April 16, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The Commission has assured that all necessary arrangements, including enhanced security measures, will be put in place to ensure that the re-poll is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. It has also urged political parties, candidates, and voters to cooperate in upholding the sanctity and credibility of the electoral process.
