Ambassa: Apr 12. Polling in six constituencies of Dhalai district concluded peacefully today with voter turnout crossing 80 percent, despite brief tension at a polling booth in the 10-Kulai Champahour TTAADC constituency.
According to District Magistrate and Election Officer Vivek H.B., polling remained largely smooth across all six centres. By 3 PM, the district recorded a turnout of 77.08 percent, which later rose beyond 80 percent by the end of voting.
A temporary disturbance was reported around 11 AM at Booth No. 42 in the 10-Kulai Champahour seat over discrepancies in the voter list. Supporters of Tipra Motha alleged that over 50 voters listed at the booth were residents of non-ADC areas and had previously voted in Gram Panchayat elections, raising concerns about their inclusion in the ADC voter roll.
As tension escalated, police, TSR, and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot. Senior officials, including the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Additional SP, along with ARO Dhananjay Chakma, intervened and held discussions with representatives of both Bharatiya Janata Party and Tipra Motha.
After clarification of election rules, both parties agreed to allow the listed voters to cast their votes, bringing the situation under control. BJP candidate Bimal Debbarma stated that although tensions flared briefly, timely police intervention ensured normalcy.
