Agartala: Apr 08. The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) has intensified its campaign ahead of the April 12 TTAADC elections with a series of mass gatherings across key constituencies, as party founder and royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Dr. (Prof.) Manik Saha, reiterated that no alliance would be considered without concrete gains for the Tiprasa people.
Addressing a large gathering at Manik Debbarma Hati in Teliamura in support of 11-Maharanipur–Teliamura candidate Utpal Debbarma, Pradyot framed the political contest as a battle between “Money power and Jati power.” The programme was attended by James Sangma of the National People’s Party (NPP), lending momentum to the campaign.
He alleged that while the Chief Minister enjoys “money, administrative and police power,” Tipra Motha represents the “poor Tiprasa people,” asserting that unity among the indigenous population would determine the outcome of the polls.
Targeting the state government, Pradyot accused the Chief Minister of attempting to “capture” the TTAADC rather than addressing core indigenous issues. He claimed that concerns such as land rights, identity and script choice have long been neglected and also neglected in the BJP’s manifesto, while also criticising the government for failing to file chargesheets in pending cases against leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) while targetting its regional ally.
Raising broader issues, he questioned the Chief Minister’s silence on the situation of minorities in Bangladesh under Muhammad Yunus and contrasted it with the response of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on cross-border developments.
He also criticised the delay in Village Committee elections, alleging that democratic processes have been stalled, and warned that those in power “will not remain” if the Tiprasa people unite.
Reiterating his stand on alliances, Pradyot said TMP would not align with any party unless tangible benefits for the indigenous population are ensured. He further alleged that attempts were made to pressure him into an electoral understanding with the BJP, which he declined.
During the programmes, 122 voters from 32 families joined TMP from different political parties.
Campaigning for candidates including Rajeshwar Debbarma (Kulai–Champahour), Prasmit Debbarma (Asharambari) and James Debbarma (Ramchandraghat), he accused rivals of distributing money and goods, while asserting that TMP is focused on long-term empowerment and securing the future of the next generation.
