Agartala, Apr 05: The Tripura Swrwngnai Buthu (TSB), Agartala Town Committee, organized the Advance Buisu Festival Celebration 2026 at Hall 1 of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel, Gorkhabasti, on Sunday, drawing enthusiastic participation from community members, youth, and cultural groups.
Held from 1 PM to 7 PM, the programme highlighted the spirit and cultural significance of Buisu, the traditional New Year festival of the indigenous Tripura community. Observed annually from April 12 to 14, Buisu includes key rituals such as Hari Buisu and Maha Buisu, symbolizing cultural heritage, social bonding, and community identity.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Bijayan Tripura, Event Convenor and Media In-charge of the TSB Central Committee. The programme was formally inaugurated by Birendra Tripura, Naran of Tripura Community, in the presence of Chief Guest Kshudiram Tripura, Chief Engineer.
In their addresses, the dignitaries emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous traditions and called for greater involvement of the younger generation in cultural practices. They underlined that festivals like Buisu play a vital role in sustaining identity and unity within the community.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Manoj Tripura, General Secretary of the Tripura Employees Association; Sanjib Kumar Tripura, former General Secretary of Tripura Chubalai Buthu; Rani Tripura, General Secretary of Tripura Bwrwi Buthu; Samir Tripura, General Secretary of TSB; and Dharinjoy Tripura, President of the Tripura Writers Forum. Each speaker highlighted the need to strengthen cultural awareness and collective responsibility.
The programme was presided over by Biswajit Tripura, President of TSB Central Committee, who appreciated the efforts of organisers and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to promoting indigenous culture.
Cultural performances and traditional activities marked the celebration, serving as a prelude to the main Buisu festival. The event concluded with active participation and a strong message on cultural preservation.
